Seamless Year 6 – 7 Transition Program
The transition from primary to secondary school is an exciting time for students and parent. It is the next stage in a lifelong educational journey leading to new experiences.
At WMYC we ensure early connections with students, families and feeder schools through a transition program that aims to make transition from primary to secondary, both emotionally and academically seamless.
Key strategies:
Primary schools and WMYC jointly develop approaches to student transistion
Student transition passports ensure communication between the students and the new school
Familiarisation visits to WMYC
Regularly visits to primary schools by Richelle Moyle, WMYC assistant principal, and students
Collection, collation and communication of student learning and wellbeing data to ensure continued learning and engagement Five day Head start program to strengthen student confidence and familiarity in the new school setting
Additional orientation day for students from small schools
Consultation with parents about their expectations of the transition process through surveys, forums and interviews
