Requirements
Host a student means you provide an international student with the best possible way to experience Australian culture and to improve their English language skill. This also means that your family will be exposed to the culture and customs where the student come from.
The payment of the homestay is AUD290 per week. This payment covers:
- three meals a day
- facilities – a bed, wardrobe, towels and linen
- all gas, heating, electricity, cooling and water costs
- cleaning of common living areas
- use of all shared areas in homestay
- study facilities – desk, lamp and bookcase.

Help an exchange student realise their dreams to go global Hosting an exchange student in your home is a great way to learn about a new culture and share your own culture and values. Children often enjoy being cultural ambassadors, introducing their new brother or sister to local customs, traditions and national holidays. Everything from preparing meals to sightseeing are opportunities to discover and appreciate cultural and other differences.

What does a host family do?
Host families help students navigate their new schools and communities, make friends, learn the language and enjoy their time while studying in Australia or performing in the Fruit Fly Circus. Sharing culture and traditions help families bond, creating lifelong friendships.
What is expected of host families?
- Welcome your student to participate in your family’s daily lives and events
- The same care, support and comfort you provide to other members of your family, including meals.
How much will you get paid to host a Student?
A weekly payment of $290 that covers expenses associated with the provision of the following homestay services:
- Single bedroom for the student’s exclusive use
- Three meals per day, seven days per week (cooked evening meal)
- Facilities including a bed, wardrobe, towels and linen
- Gas, electricity, heating and water costs
- Cleaning services of common living areas
- Use of living areas within residence
- Study facilities, including a desk, study light and bookcase
What is a host families financial obligations?
Students arrive with their own spending money for social and school activities, clothes, etc. As a host family, you will not need to provide spending money or an allowance. We will discuss how school related costs are handled.
Host families that take on Fruit Fly Circus School Students will have an obligation to pick up students from training four (4) days a week at 7.00pm and one (1) day a week 6.00pm and to be available for any other activities that may arise to do with the Fruit Fly Circus.
Where do our international students come from?
Students come from China, Vietnam and have demonstrated the maturity and motivation to study abroad. students are: usually between 15-18 years old on arrival, committed to actively participate in education and they are considered a good student in their home country, in good general health and are curious, flexible and open-minded.
Where do our Fruit Fly Circus Students come from?
All over Australia.
