Wodonga Middle Years College builds upon the Information Communication Technology experiences students have in primary school through our iPad Program and Desire to Learn – D2L.
Ipad and Year 7 Information Session
Wodonga Middle Years College aims to empower students to fully engage in a 21st Century learning environment through the iPad. An iPad provides an opportunity for students to tap into powerful and personal learning networks. We have also found that this technology engages students in ways not previously possible, creating new learning and teaching possibilities.
Students are required to purchase an iPad at the beginning of Year 7. We recommend that families do this through the JB Hi-Fi Education portal.
Pre-Order an iPad
The process of pre-ordering your iPad is simple.
- Visit the JB Hi-Fi Education Portal
- Enter the School Code WMYC2022
- Select which iPad you wish to purchase whether it be the 32gb or the 128gb and any accessories you wish to get – we strongly recommend you get at least a cover for the iPad
Deliveries and collections for the iPads will start from the 15th November. This is so the Applecare+ insurance starts from that date and not earlier, to ensure your child gets the most out of the AppleCare insurance while they attend WMYC.
We encourage parents and guardians to use the JBHiFi Schools Purchasing Portal to purchase an iPad for your child https://www.jbeducation.com.au/byod/ On the Portal, you will need to enter our school code WMYC2022 which will then display the options available.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have to buy a new iPad if you already own one?
No you definitely don’t have to buy a new iPad, if your child already has access to one. We encourage you to make sure that it is the most up-to-date iPad (6th Generation and above). We encourage our new Year 7s to have the latest iPad, as our LMS continues to update its software, it’s important to have a device that will continue to support it.
Are there any financial support options?
Wodonga Middle Years College prides itself on ensuring that each student has the same access to all learning equipment and learning opportunities. There are options to rent iPads through our Library, as well as other financial support options. If you do have any concerns, please contact Sarah Kilner directly.
Do I need to purchase any additional software?
Most of the work that happens on the iPads is based on our Learning Management System, D2L, which is web-based and requires no additional software to operate. Every student is issued a Microsoft Office 365 account for free, which has access to the full suite of Microsoft Office products.
Do I need to purchase any accessories for the iPad?
Typing is a crucial skill for all students to be familiar with and because of this we strongly encourage families to purchase the STM iPad Case + Keyboard. The Apple Pencil is an optional accessory that can assist students in their learning, however, majority of students manage without it.
Can my child use an Android device?
Yes, as most of our programs are web-based, however, we do recommend getting in contact with the College, so that we can make sure that your device is compatible with the apps we use.
Do I need to purchase any textbooks?
No, all of our content is stored online in our LMS. Our teachers help develop the curriculum, in-line with the Victorian curriculum.
Does my child need to bring their iPad to Headstart?
Students will not need their device for Headstart. The setup process for their devices will happen with the CARE teacher at the start of next year.
Do students require an iCloud account for school?
Students do not need an iCloud account specifically for school, it is the choice of each family, whether a student has their own personal iCloud account or is a part of an existing family iCloud account.
Desire to Learn – D2L
To link all student iPads to a learning platform, we have partnered with a company called D2L, and their flagship product called Brightspace. The foundation of our integrated learning platform combines use and accessibility in one online learning environment to help ensure a mobile-ready experience is available anytime, anywhere. Students will be able to access all of their learning materials via Desire to Learn so that they can work on this at school or home. Students will also submit assessments and receive teacher feedback through this online platform.
