The Academic Advancement Program is an accelerated learning program designed to support achievement for students with high educational aspirations. Our aim is to have all students who participate in the program to achieve their learning goals in a supportive yet challenging environment. Students that are highly motivated and have strong academic results are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the Academic Advancement Program.

Application Process
The WMYC Academic Advancement Program has a limited number of places for competent and committed students. Please follow this process below to apply.
- The Academic Advancement Program information for 2025 will be released and available to watch on our Facebook page, on Tuesday 30 April. Follow the Wodonga Middle Years College Facebook page to receive information and notification about the 2025 AAP Information.
- Complete an Online Expression of Interest Form by Tuesday 18 June. Primary schools to supply Assessment Data. (Please note that the EOI Form will become available closer to the date.)
- Complete the AAP Aptitude test on Thursday 1 August, at the Felltimber campus. There are two session times: 9:00am to 10:30am or 4:00pm to 5:30pm. Bookings are essential, details to follow.
- Attend an AAP Interview on Tuesday 6 August or Wednesday 7 August, at the Felltimber campus. Bookings are essential, details to follow.
- Confirmation of AAP placements and campus will be emailed and posted on Tuesday 10 September.

What opportunities will my child get in AAP?
In AAP your child will be in an environment with like-minded peers and will be given opportunities to develop their independent learner qualities through self-driven tasks. We aim to build leadership skills through group work tasks which has resulted in many students seeking leadership roles within the College.
AAP students will be invited to participate in a range of leadership and educational opportunities. For example, guest speaker talks, university trips, debating team, and leadership activities.
What classes does my child participate in for AAP?
AAP students participate in all core classes (Maths, English, Science, Humanities, and PE) and all specialists’ subjects (Cooking, Technology, Languages and Art). The Activity Block and Connect are opportunities for AAP students to work with students from other classes.
Can we choose which campus we go to?
Campus allocations is in line with the Neighbourhood school’s policy therefore your child will be allocated to the closest campus to your home address. The AAP is the same program at the Felltimber and Huon campuses. Our AAP teachers across the two campuses work closely to provide enriching opportunities for our students.
What opportunities will my child have to interact and build relationships with non-AAP students?
All students have many opportunities to participate in activities with peers such as our Thursday afternoon activity block, Connect, Camps Week, sports teams, and school carnivals. .
What if my child is behind in one subject?
Our teachers understand that a gifted or talented student may excel in a particular area. Your child’s teachers will teach them to their point of need and support them to build they knowledge and skills. In AAP, students are expected to show excellent learner qualities which reflect our school values of Respect, Resilience and Aspiration, and are expected to receive a GPA every six weeks which is above a 2.8.
What’s involved in the aptitude test?
All applicants will need to complete the aptitude test. This test requires no need to study as it is based on the skills and knowledge acquired in their years of learning. This test looks at a individual’s general Literacy, Numeracy and Critical thinking skills.
On the testing day:
- Approximately an hour
- Your child will not need to bring anything we will supply all materials
- Parents don’t need to stay (drop off and pick up at felltimber campus)
- Results will be discussed at the interview
What happens in the interview?
As part of the application process your child will need to complete a one-on-one 15-minute interview with one of the Curriculum Leaders. In this interview your child will have the opportunity to share their strengths, skills and interests. It is encouraged that your child brings a piece of work that showcases them as a learner, a piece that they are proud of. We also ask that a recent report with the student’s Grade 6 results is brought to the interview. Your parent or guardian is welcome to come in with you and support you in the interview.
