These school holidays, Year 9 student Ava Beall is stepping into the spotlight, joining the Melbourne Theatre Company’s Young Artists Week for a life-changing week of theatre!
Each year the Melbourne Theatre Company hosts an intensive, life-changing week of drama workshops for a few select Victorian students. The annual Young Artists Week is designed for young people with limited access to the arts, offering the chance to learn and develop drama skills, gain confidence, self-awareness and self-expression, while also building friendships and a lifelong affinity for theatre. Students will take part in a range of workshops including playwriting, improvisation, and composition, before presenting an original performance based on their own script.
Ava will be one of just 21 students aged 14-16 chosen from across Victoria to participate in this exciting opportunity. Ava shared her excitement about having the chance to work with a team of like-minded people, saying, “It’s great to learn everyone’s differences and skills, and how to make that into something really cool.”
Ava has always been heavily interested in the performing arts and has eagerly stepped into many school productions, embracing a variety of roles, including a lead role in last year’s show ‘Fight with All Your Might the Zombies of Tonight’.
Ava was nominated for Young Artists Week by her teacher Taylah Evans, who Ava says has been a constant mentor and source of encouragement for her. She is also very appreciative of the guidance and support of WMYC teacher Luke Harman, and NESPA teacher Lynette Campbell, who was her director for both ‘The Girl Who Cried Wolf’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’.
We are incredibly proud of Ava for her dedication, talent and passion for the arts, and we look forward to the creativity and inspiration she brings back with her next term.
