Wodonga Middle Years College places high value on leadership. We create opportunities wherever possible for students to learn and to demonstrate leadership. Student leaders at the College occupy a significant position of responsibility and trust.
A School Captain from each of the campuses has full membership of school council, where they attend monthly meetings, make reports and participate fully in council business.
Student leaders run assemblies and awards presentations at the college, as well as organise and run fundraising and other awareness raising events. They represent the college at community events, such as ANZAC and Remembrance Day ceremonies. Student leaders are consulted by the Principal and administration and run student surveys and focus groups on important matters relating to the school and students. Recently, for example, the four school captains participated in the WMYC Peer Review, after first running focus groups to gather students’ input around our college’s achievements in the past four years and their ideas about the college direction over the next four years.
A number of our student leaders also participate in community activities, including local council and state wide leadership forums, debating and citizenship events.
Our guiding principle is that if students can do it, they should.
